Background replacement only — facial features are never altered. Some authorities (US State Dept, UK HMPO, Canada IRCC) require unedited photos; check your destination's rules and prefer a real plain background when possible.
Align the top of the head between the guide lines (70–80% of the frame).

Brazil's official e-visa application (handled through the government-authorized
VF Worldwide portal) specifies a 3.5 x 4.5 cm portrait, and the official sample
photo PDF ships with the pixel dimensions 413 x 531 - exactly 300 DPI, which is
the canvas this tool produces. The Brazilian government checklist on gov.br adds
that the face must fill 70-80 percent of the frame on a plain white background
with no shadows. No file-size cap is published for the upload, so this preset
leaves the size limit off and exports at full quality; the e-visa form accepts a
few hundred KB without complaint. Shoot or scan against a flat white wall in even
daylight, look straight into the lens with a neutral expression, and keep the
whole head from chin to hairline plus the top of the shoulders inside the frame.
Head coverings are only accepted for religious or medical reasons, and glasses
must not create glare or hide the eyes. If your application is a printed
submission rather than the e-visa portal, the same 3.5 x 4.5 cm print size
applies - print at 300 DPI on glossy paper and trim along the frame. Brazilian
review agents commonly reject photos where the shoulders are cut off or the
background shows walls, doors, or outdoor scenery, so the plain white backdrop
matters as much as the dimensions.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a Brazil e-visa photo?
3.5 x 4.5 cm, which the official sample defines as 413 x 531 pixels at 300 DPI. There is no published file-size cap.
Do my shoulders need to be in the photo?
Yes - keep the top of both shoulders visible. Cropping at the neck is one of the most common reasons Brazilian e-visa photos are rejected.
Can I use a photo with a coloured background?
No. The checklist requires plain white with no shadows. Use the background-swap option here if your original was taken against a coloured wall.
