Background replacement only — facial features are never altered. Some authorities (US State Dept, UK HMPO, Canada IRCC) require unedited photos; check your destination's rules and prefer a real plain background when possible.
Align the top of the head between the guide lines (70–80% of the frame).

Colombia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs online visa system
(tramitesmre.cancilleria.gov.co) asks applicants to upload a 3 x 4 cm colour
photograph on a white background as part of the digital visa application, with
the upload limited to roughly 300 KB in JPG - some versions of the official
pages show the cap as 495 KB, so staying under 300 KB satisfies both. At 300 DPI
the 3 x 4 cm print is 354 x 472 pixels, the canvas this tool exports; the
compressor holds the JPEG under the cap automatically by stepping the quality
down. The head-height band follows the 70-80 percent ICAO convention used in
Colombian consular practice - with the compact 3:4 ratio the head fills most of
the frame and only a thin shoulder strip shows. Shoot face-on in even daylight
against a white wall, neutral expression, both eyes open, no glasses glare, head
coverings only for religious or medical reasons with the full face visible. The
online system reviews the photo before the visa is issued, and oversized or
shadowed files bounce at upload - prepare and compress the image here before
starting the form so the session does not expire mid-application. After approval
the same photo is printed into the e-visa, so a clean crop matters beyond the
upload step.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a Colombia visa photo?
3 x 4 cm on white - 354 x 472 pixels at 300 DPI - uploaded as JPG under about 300 KB to the online visa system.
Why does my upload keep failing on the Colombia portal?
Usually the file is above the size cap or the background carries shadows. Crop here and let the compressor hold it under 300 KB.
Is the cap 300 KB or 495 KB?
Official page versions differ, so this preset targets the stricter 300 KB - which passes both checks.
