Background replacement only — facial features are never altered. Some authorities (US State Dept, UK HMPO, Canada IRCC) require unedited photos; check your destination's rules and prefer a real plain background when possible.
Align the top of the head between the guide lines (49–69% of the frame).

India's regular (sticker) visa application on the official indianvisaonline.gov.in
portal requires a square photograph uploaded online - minimum 350 x 350 pixels,
between 10 KB and 300 KB, on a light or white background with no shadows. The
printed photo is 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) with the head measuring 25-35 mm from
crown to chin, which works out to roughly 49-69 percent of the frame; those are
the guide lines this tool draws. The square 350 x 350 export matches the online
form exactly, which is the parameter that actually gets checked when you submit -
files that are rectangular, oversized, or above 300 KB bounce at the upload step.
Note this is the regular visa spec; if you are applying for an OCI card or
surrender certificate, use the separate India OCI preset, which asks for a larger
602 x 602 square with a light background that is explicitly not stark white.
Shoot face-on in daylight against a plain wall, keep a neutral expression, and
remember India does not accept photos where the head is tilted or the shoulders
are cropped away. Because the portal form times out quickly, crop and compress
here first, then fill in the application in one sitting.
Frequently asked questions
What size is an India regular visa photo?
The online form needs a square photo, minimum 350 x 350 pixels, 10-300 KB, light or white background. The print version is 2 x 2 inches.
Is this the same as the OCI photo?
No. OCI cards need 602 x 602 pixels on a light background that is not stark white. Use the separate India OCI preset for that application.
Why does the upload keep failing?
Usually the file is above 300 KB or not square. Crop here to 350 x 350 and the compressor holds the JPEG under the cap.
