Background replacement only — facial features are never altered. Some authorities (US State Dept, UK HMPO, Canada IRCC) require unedited photos; check your destination's rules and prefer a real plain background when possible.
Align the top of the head between the guide lines (70–80% of the frame).

Russia's unified e-visa portal (evisa.kdmid.ru, run by the consular department of
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) asks for a digital photograph in JPEG format with
the 35 x 45 mm portrait ratio, a plain light-coloured background, and the face
occupying 70-80 percent of the frame. The official instruction page gives the
ratio rather than fixed pixels; at 300 DPI the 35 x 45 mm standard works out to
413 x 531 pixels, which is the canvas this tool exports and which Russian
consulates accept for print submissions as well. No file-size cap is published,
so the preset leaves the size limit off. The light background may be pale grey,
beige, or cream - pure white is typical for prints but the portal only requires
it be plain and light with no shadows or gradients. Shoot face-on in soft daylight,
both eyes open, mouth closed, and keep head coverings off unless worn for
religious or medical reasons. Photos with red-eye, heavy shadows across one side
of the face, or a busy background are the usual rejection triggers on the e-visa
form. Because the application session saves each section as you go, prepare and
compress the photo here first so the upload step completes on the first try.
